Frank Smith

Frank founded Idea Solutions in 2002, after previously working 10 years supporting the Information Technology Group of Baltimore Gas & Electric Company (BGE), Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant.  During his BGE tenure, Frank was responsible for the standardization of the site desktop and portable PCs.  Using the network infrastructure, Frank set up procedures and processes to install and maintain software applications.  Prior to moving his family to Calvert County in 1991, Frank spent 20 years serving in the United States Navy.  He enlisted in 1971 and became a submariner, serving aboard the USS Simon Bolivar and the deep submergence research submarine, Naval Reactors-1 (NR-1). He was commissioned an Ensign in 1981 and worked for Admiral Rickover in the Naval Reactors’ Office, where he oversaw the construction of nuclear powered submarines. Frank retired a Lieutenant in 1991. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Software from The University of the State of New York. His fascination for computers developed while in his Sanford, FL high school drafting class.

Mark Smith

Mark is the current Chief Operating Officer of Idea Solutions.  He joined the team in 2017 and has focused on expanding the Idea Solutions brand all while further tailoring the IS product to its specific clients.  Through individual meetings with owners, he’s been able to identify the ever-changing needs of the small/medium sized businesses and has expanded both the products and services IS offers to meet those needs.  His personable approach combined with his thorough knowledge of the IT landscape provides Mark with a unique ability to work with business owners to plan, build and maintain a network that fits each individual client’s needs.

Mark attended Frostburg State University and has a Bachelor Degree in Political Science and Public Administration.  His interest in computers traces back to his early childhood when his father introduced him to his first computer, the IBM 5150.  When he’s not working, Mark is often coaching his sons travel baseball team, or encouraging and supporting his teenage daughters dance aspirations.

Beau Montgomery

Beau has been with Idea Solutions since 2016 as a senior network technician.  His friendly and personal touch always brings a smile to clients faces while helping them troubleshoot their PC issues.  He has taken an interest in networking since early childhood, which then grew into a desire to make a career of it. He advanced his knowledge in the industry by obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Cyber Security in 2015. Beau is a native of Southern Maryland.

Chris Collins

Chris has been a Network Technician at Idea Solutions since 2017.  Before working at Idea Solutions, Chris worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and was enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Chris also has a background in the HVAC, electrical and automotive fields. Chris is currently married and resides in Southern Maryland with his wife. He enjoys restoring historic vehicles and casual gaming.
